Also tried with synaptic, but the package is not available on the list managed by this program. I followed your steps to install and build the scripts for squirrel, but the command to build it didn't work, I can access the squirrel file easily, but terminal puts a message saying that the file "make-debian-packages" does not exist. A version of Synkron for Linux can be downloaded in a tar.gz format which I (frankly) don't know how to install. All computers and the printer are wired to a Linksys gigabit ethernet switch.
